"Net of Being"
New works by Alex Grey
November 10 – December 31

On exhibit at MicroCoSM Gallery are Grey's major new paintings including “Holy Family,” and "Net of Being," a fifteen-foot long oil painting introduced to millions by the rock band TOOL. After years of labor, this epic work is on view along with drawings that led to its creation. Related to Grey's series of painted and sculpted "universal beings," begun in 1999, the "Net of Being" portrays an endless perspective of column-like four-faced Godheads. Each head is composed of a fiery grid of eyes and galaxies linked with similar heads in an endless mesh, implying a realm of boundless interconnectedness. A new topology of Being and infinite awareness is mapped by this omni-directional web. Grey states that this visionary realm was visited during an entheogenic (psychedelic) ayahuasca journey he ex-
perienced in 2002. Small sculptural details of the Net of Being are also on view. “Net of Being” was featured on the cover of TOOL’s recent “10,000 Days” album, and the CD package won a 2007 Grammy Award.

Also on exhibit are models of the future Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, architecture designed by Alex Grey. The
entryway pavilion on the ground level is a wheel of 12 Godhead columns similar to those portrayed in the
painting "Net of Being." In the space between the heads nestle smaller replicas of the large domed Chapel.
Smaller Godheads and Chapel shapes repeat fractally, reaching tiny proportions that harmonically relate
to the overall pattern of the building. From every point of view on the grounds of this domed circular struc-
ture, observers witness two profiles mirroring each other, created by the outline of the building and implying
two giant celestial faces. The message encoded in the building is, “When beings come together in Oneness,
they create sacred space.”

The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, being designed to house a permanent collection of
Grey's paintings and sculpture, is itself a profoundly inspiring sculpture for a timeless body of artwork.
Best known for his paintings which “X-ray” multiple dimensions of reality, Alex Grey's visual meditations
on the nature of life and consciousness, have led to a world renowned career of exhibitions from the New Mu-
seum in NYC, to Tokyo, to Sao Paulo, a retrospective at Museum of Contemporary Arts San Diego, features
on Discovery Channel, Newsweek, Time, and album art for multi-platinum and Grammy award winning rock
bands such as Tool, Beastie Boys, and Nirvana. Because of his underground cult status in the psychedelic
world, his artwork is some of the most reproduced on sheets of blotter acid.

Alex Grey's art illuminates worlds of subtle energy and proposes new icons of trans-denominational spirituality. Along with his wife,
artist Allyson Grey, Alex co-founded the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, CoSM, located in Chelsea, open for three
years, as a testing ground for the alliance of divinity, creativity, and community.

Portland Earthday Banner of Peace Booth

Hey beauties, Earth Day is nearing, Sat. April 21st. and we have got our selves a banner of peace booth where we are going to be spreading the word and the banner in a big way, we plan to have supplies to make your own with wood blocks, stencils, circular items for tracing and paint to paint you own. Trying to manifest buttons and stickers and some more canvas/ material to make patches etc. We have a lot of ideas and could really use your support in whatever way you can, whether energenic or actually volunteering with us at Earth Day. We'd love to hear from you, what ever your ideas. If your feeling it, please contact me ASAP, were having a brunch this Sunday to make it a reality. Peace to us all.

interactive art project on my tribe page

I am creating an art project on my tribe page
I am creating a new art piece at least once every 3 days
and asking questions (right now relating to the inner workings of being human)
and depending on the comments and responses
and the inspiration I get from peoples diverse view points
will create the next art piece and question

Degrees of Separation, the Numbers Game, and How to Bring Peace to the World

To bring peace to the world we must first understand the consequences of war, specifically how many people it affects. The calculations required to truly understand the number of people that are directly affected by war are quite simple. To get a ballpark estimate, all we have to do is look at the number of contacts we have in our cell phone. If we got hurt then the odds are that most of our contacts would hear about it. If we also take into consideration that they have families and friends, then the number of people that would know about our demise could be very substantial. What we will do in this article is come up with the lowest estimate of the number of people that would be directly affected per casualty, then extrapolate that number to get a better understanding of what the numbers in war imply. Once we fully understand the magnitude of the consequences of war, then it should be relatively easy to implement the changes required, on a personal level, to help stop the proliferation of war.

Two Degrees of Separation:

The average family size in the United States of America and Canada is slightly over three. If we include 2 grandparents per family, then the average immediate family size would increase to 5 (a father, a mother and a child, plus 2 grandparents). To give you a perspective of how low this number is, the average family size in Iraq is 6, not including the grandparents.

The definition for an extended family is " a group of relatives, such as those of three generations, who live in close geographic proximity rather than under the same roof." If we assign 4 extended family members per individual in a family, excluding the centralized person, then the average extended family size would be 16. For each extended family member we will assign 10 people, representing their family and friends. This is absolutely the lowest estimate for an individual. Most people have substantially more then 10 friends and family. We will also assign 4 additional family members for each friend of the extended family. Figure 1 represents this distribution, showing the minimum number of people who would be directly affected for each person killed or wounded in war. This number totals 821.

A Numbers Game:

Afghanistan and Iraq

Now that we have established the minimum number of people affected per casualty, we can estimate the number of people that have been directly affected by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Table 1 lists the number of casualties and the total number of people affected for Canada, The United States, Coalition Countries, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The numbers that require special consideration from this table are the total number of people affected in Afghanistan and Iraq. Afghanistan has a total population of approximately 31 million while Iraq has a population of approximately 27 million. The total number of people affected in these countries is more then the total population of the country. This implies that the average Afghani citizen knows or has heard of more than 1 person that has been killed or seriously injured as a direct result of the war. In Iraq, the average person knows or has heard of, on a first hand bases, of approximately 13 people who have been killed or seriously wounded. To truly put this number into perspective we should ask ourselves, how many people do we know that have been killed or wounded by the war so far?

Vietnam

There has been a tremendous amount of discussion comparing the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to that of Vietnam. Table 2 lists the number of people affected by the Vietnam War for the United States, and South and North Vietnam.

The total number of people affected in the United States at the end of the Vietnam War was approximately 170 million, representing over 80% of the population in 1975. This implies that the majority of Americans were directly affected by the war in Vietnam, which is most likely the reason why the war came to an end for the United States at that time. For the Vietnamese, the average citizen knew or had heard of at least 46 people who had been killed or wounded by the war, which would explain why the United States lost the war in Vietnam (an estimate of 50 million for the population of Vietnam for 1975 was used for this calculation).

World War II & III

The numbers above should indicate the direction that we are headed in the wars of Afghanistan and Iraq. In Iraq we are getting close to affecting people on the same level as Vietnam once the number of people affected by Depleted Uranium and the 12-year sanctions are taken into account. Unfortunately this disaster does not seem to be the end of the road for the American mission. In early May of this year, 2006, the president of the United States acknowledged that 2001 was the beginning of World War III. His remarks were confirmed by Israel's UN Ambassador Dan Gillerman, when he also acknowledged that World War III had already begun during a routine UN Security Council meeting on May 30, 2006. These two statements from two of the main nuclear powers in the world should be considered frightening since each, individually, is capable of starting World War III.

An analysis of the total number of dead at the end of World War II is shown in Table 3. The total number of wounded is unknown, and considering the magnitude of a World War, the number of killed is sufficient for our analysis. The total number of dead during World War II was estimated to be 62.5 million. The total population of the world during that period was approximately 2 billion, which means that on average each person would have known or heard of 26 people that had been killed in the war.

An estimate of the number of dead and wounded that can be expected for World War III is shown in Table 4. This table was obtained using reverse extrapolation. The population of the world is estimated to be seven billion by 2012. Using the starting number of 26, obtained from the World War II calculation above, it is expected that by 2012 approximately 221 million people will be dead. If the ratio of the dead vs. wounded is taken into account to be the same as the average numbers obtained from the Iraq war then we can assume that approximately 4.3 people will be wounded for every person killed (This number is obtained from the average kill to wounded ratio for the United States and the Medium Iraq casualty estimates). This calculation implies that the total number of wounded in World War III will be approximately 1 billion. Keep in mind that these numbers do not take into account the number of people who will be affected by Depleted Uranium and the environmental catastrophes that will follow as a direct result of the war.

These numbers, 221 million dead and approximately 1 billion wounded, are what the United States and the Israeli ambassador have just stated to be the price which the world will pay for the advancement of an agenda that is still not very clear. If the purpose of this so-called "War on Terror" is to protect human life and reduce suffering, then it is beyond my understanding how this task will be accomplished by killing 221 million people and seriously injuring 1 billion. But then again I am just an analyst and do not pretend to know of a higher purpose beyond saving the life of 1 out of every 7 people that will either be dead or seriously wounded in the next 6 years.

How to Bring Peace to the World:

The most important thing that we can do on an individual basis beyond knowing what we are meant to consumer, whom we are meant to support and what we are meant to know, is attending Peace Rallies. If we apply the basic premise discussed above under "Two degrees of Separation", then for each person attending a peace rally, many people could be affected. Unfortunately attending a peace rally does not usually have the same affect, on a personal level, as compared to attending a funeral or visiting a friend in the hospital. Therefore, it would be rather optimistic to assume that by attending a peace rally we would directly affect 821 people. However it is reasonable to assume that if we are vocal enough, we may have a partial influence to "One Degree of Separation" of our family. This would mean that for every person that attends a peace rally approximately 181 people could be affected. If we assume that peace can be accomplished through a majority, then if half the world's population is affected through activism, it should be possible to stop World War III. Table 5 lists the minimum number of people that are required to attend the coming peace rallies to influence half the world. This number is 18 million.

In 2003, leading up to the invasion of Iraq, it was estimated that between 6 to 10 million people attended peace rallies in approximately 800 cities around the world. These numbers fell short of what was required to stop the invasion of Iraq, however they were sufficient to influence the leaders of certain countries, such as Canada, to refrain from joining the war. If as a world community we hope to save ourselves from the pain and anguish proposed by certain people, then we require at least 18 million people to join in a common cause. To bring peace to the world and save the lives of hundreds of millions of people it is required that a mere 18 million of us, representing 0.28% of the world’s populace, to rise up and demand peace with one voice.

I hope we can do it.

A few days ago I was reading on the Internet about Nicholas Roerich, the biggest Russian satanic mystic. He spent many years in India and Tibet and I read many times that the Buddhists loved him very much, they immediately recognized him as one of their own. His wife, Elena, was also a mystic, I think that she wrote something like 14 "channeled" books. (Like Alice Bailey). I also read that he and his wife visited Shambala and some cosmic "elders". Well, I was reading Russian sites about the reptilian couple, and I found these amazing photos… On them you will see Nicholas Roerich’s son, Svetoslav, being warmly greeted by the Communists, including… Gorbachev and his wife. All these photos were taken before the fall of Communism, and this is truly something. During the Communist era, true Christianity was severely persecuted in Russia (I remember that very well!), people who distributed Bibles or Christian literature were sent to Siberia for 20-30 years! But as you will see on these photos, Satanism was VERY allowed in the Soviet Union! T H E B A N N E R O F P E A C E
The Roerich Pact and Banner of Peace is an international treaty signed by India, the Baltic States, and 22 nations of the Americas including the United States. The Roerich Peace Pact established an international agreement allowing any nation to protect its cultural or artistic heritage with a symbolic banner, the Banner of Peace. Signed in 1935, this treaty is International Law today.
Nicholas Roerich, shocked by the devastations of World War One and the Russian revolution in his own country, realized that the cultural heritage of each nation is in essence a world treasure. His idea of cultural heritage included not only the physical remains of earlier cultures, but also the active creative centers, universities, libraries, concert halls and theaters of all nations. Just as the Red Cross protects hospitals, the Banner of Peace was implemented to protect culture.
Written with the assistance of international experts and lawyers, the Banner of Peace was praised by many notable figures during its signing including Albert Einstein, George Bernard Shaw, and H.G. Wells. The Pact states, "educational, artistic, and scientific institutions... shall be protected and respected by the belligerents ... without any discrimination as to the state allegiance of any particular institution or mission... these missions may display a distinctive flag (the Banner of Peace)… which will entitle them to special protection and respect..." Thus any site of cultural activity around the world can fly the Banner of Peace to declare itself neutral, independent of combatant forces, and protected by international treaty.
Roerich was an artist and traveled extensively through Russia, India, Tibet, and the United States. He hoped by using a symbol that represented all cultures no group would feel excluded from using it. The Banner would have not one but several meanings, as Nicholas Roerich himself wrote, "Let us be united - you will ask in what way? You will agree with me: in the easiest way, to create a common and sincere language. Perhaps in Beauty and in Knowledge."
The distinctive Banner, shown above, is three red circles surrounded by a larger red circle on a white banner. The banner is a deep red or magenta color to symbolize the color of our one blood, which is the same for all peoples. The top circle represents spirituality and encompasses the truth of all religions; that we can all unite regardless of our distinct beliefs. The two circles on the bottom represent art and science. The circle that surrounds the three spheres represents culture, the unity of art, science, and spirituality.
The symbol for the Banner of Peace can be found in many cultures and numerous philosophical systems. It can be found on the coat of arms of the Popes, on Ethiopian and Coptic antiquities, and Stone Age amulets. It also appears on Tibetan rings, Buddhist banners, the Temple of Heaven in Peking and in the oldest of Indian symbols, the Chintamani, the sign of happiness.
Found in all cultures, the Banner of Peace is the perfect symbol to bring all peoples together in peace.

The Banner signifies the unity of cultures - a Culture of Peace.

This sign of the triad, which is to be found all over the world, may have several meanings. Some interpret it as a symbol of past, present and future, enclosed in the ring of Eternity; others consider that it refers to religion, science and art, held together in the circle of Culture. But whatever be the interpretation the sign itself is of the most universal character.
The oldest of Indian symbols, Chintamani, the sign of happiness, is composed of this symbol and one can find it in the Temple of Heaven in Peking. It appears in the Three Treasures of Tibet; on the breast of the Christ in Memling's well-known painting; on the Madonna of Strasbourg; on the shields of the Crusaders and coat of arms of the Templars. It can be seen on the blades of the famous Caucasian swords known as "Gurda".
It appears as a symbol in a number of philosophical systems. It can be found on the images of Gesar Khan and Rigden Djapo; on the "Tamga" of Timurlane and on the coat of arms of the Popes. It is to be seen in the works of ancient Spanish painters and of Titian, and on the ancient icon of St. Nicholas in Bari and that of St. Sergius and the Holy Trinity.
It can be found on the coat of arms of the city of Samarkand, on Ethiopian and Coptic antiquities, on the rocks of Mongolia, on Tibetan rings, on the breast ornaments of Lahul, Ladak and all the Himalayan countries, on Celtic coins and on the pottery of the Neolithic age.
It is conspicuous on Buddhist banners. The same sign is branded on Mongolian steeds. Nothing, then, could be more appropriate for assembling all races than this symbol, which is no mere ornament but a sign which carries with it a deep meaning.
It has existed for immeasurable periods of time and is to be found throughout the world. No one therefore can pretend that it belongs to any particular sect, confession, or tradition, and it represents the evolution of consciousness in all its varied phases.
When it is a question of defending the world's treasures, no better symbol could be selected, for it is universal, of limitless antiquity and carries with it a meaning which should find an echo in every heart.

A world famous Russian painter, scientist, archeologist and great thinker from the beginning of the 20th century, Nicholas Roerich, worked tirelessly for what he called peace through culture. In 1935 the historic “Roerich Pact”, was signed in Washington in the presence of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, by USA and all the Pan-American member states.
This pact asks that all educational, artistic and scientific institutions will forever be protected in times of upheaval and warfare, as well as in times of peace, and its symbol - the Banner of Peace - would fly over all such centres safeguarding and promoting the spirit, the beauty and the knowledge of humanity.

The symbol on this banner - three spheres surrounded by a circle - is an ancient one, interpreted in many ways and used by cultures throughout the ages and throughout the world; Roerich therefore saw it as the perfect symbol for a future culture in which all cultures are respected, celebrated and united.

While the Roerich Pact may be seen as an appeal to governments more than to us people, the Manifesto 2000 pledge, formulated and signed by all then living Peace Prize Laureates, was perhaps more directly aimed at raising public awareness on the need for the commitment of us all to live by values indispensable for creating good neighbourhoods. It has to date been signed by more than 75 million people.

Based on the foundation of this pledge all our many campaigns, projects, resolutions and strivings towards building a better, fairer and more enlightened world can be united, and this unity be made visible through the banner of peace, which carries a symbol belonging to us all.

Peace Through Unity would therefore like to propose:
That all institutions concerned with education on all levels, all places of worship and of cultural significance, local government and government ministries etc. be informed of the Roerich initiative, the Banner of Peace and the Manifesto 2000; and that these institutions be encouraged to sign the following simple statement of commitment and display the banner of peace as a symbol of unity of purpose:

I/we hereby resolve to promote actively, consistently, and in every way possible the creation of a culture of peace, built upon the foundation of right human relations and the basic oneness of all life. In accordance with Manifesto make the solemn pledge to: respect all life; reject violence; share with others; listen to understand; preserve the planet; and rediscover solidarity. We have laboured long and hard under a culture which has been alienating us from each other and taught use the skills of war. Yet, our willingness in principle to create a fairer, more tolerant and peaceful world is well documented. Plans and tools for action are in place. It is high time we put heart and soul into bringing about a culture, based on the fundamental truth of the oneness of all living beings - and for the love of humanity.
So be it.

Talking about this topic can be a very potent tool in uniting folks from all around the earth. Sun symbolism goes back as we have ever known right through to this present day. I hope that you enjoy this & get something out of it. I'm just trying to help find new & better ways to enable the world to unite in order to achieve our goals of peace by 2012. I find it especially interesting that most folks have no knowledge of any solar mythology & sun symbolism yet, we are surrounded by it & always have been. I am hopeful that maybe some of this information will find its way into this coming new years Calendar.

This seems to me the most potent tool to unite all religions around the world (by getting back to their roots & original meanings or symbology) & turn them on to the 13 month 28 day calendar at the same time. Many birds, one stone so to speak. Then, we can move on to the most powerful peace we've ever known. Reminds me of a John Lennon song or two!

Roerich Peace symbol!

When I was posting about our peace symbol to change, I was not at all trying to negate the Roerich peace sybol in anyway. I love this symbol. Its awsome! I was just trying to send out the vibration to change the 'peace symbol' because we have always used it reverse. Actually when I was little and jusat doodling, I would always draw the peace synbol 'upright' and would be told that thats wrong... but now upon deeper insight, I see that the peace symbol has been used 'reverse' for far too long... there are many peace symbols in our owlrd and we should be aware to use our peace symbols in a way that vibrates positive, uplifting vibrations... If we really want to move into the higher realms of positive PEACEFUL waves of existence.

I had a vision that when we all realize that our 'peace symbol' has been used "upside down" for many years, and we CHANGE it, then our kharma may change. :-)

It was just a thought, or rather a profound vision!

To understand why I am saying this, you have to be familiar with the oracle of RUNES; with Algiz. You see, the peace symbol is a circle with an 'upside down Y' and a straighline thru it. The Y with a straight line thru it is the symbol rune stone of "PROTECTION" - ALGIZ.

BUT instead of writing peace symbols with the symbol (Y) upright we all write these peace signs with the RUNE of protection in a "reverse" manner. This is giving us the reversed energy of protection.

The reverse meaning is "slow growth or decline. You may be open to attack".... so whats up with that? Also the symbol was created from a feeling of "despair" as quoted by the inventor of the peace symbol.

Its time we start writing the peace symbols UPRIGHT, yes? :-)

Arnold Whittick comments in Symbols, Signs And Their Meaning, that "Communication depends on the symbolism of language, and thus man becomes aware of another's thoughts by means of symbols .... All social and economic activities are carried on by means of symbols; the various offshoots and adjuncts of language, like numbers and money, make this apparent. Religious worship and government, too, are dependent on them. A.N. Whitehead, in his valuable book (Symbolism: Its Meaning And Effect) shows that society is held together by acceptance of, and reverence for, its symbols."

The reverse of this is also true. A society can be attacked by the undermining or perversion or destruction of its symbols.

Symbols are very important in the psychic field of human being. It is with ‘symbols ’that the High Initiates of Ancient Egypt used to communicate with telepathically.

I believe if we delve deeper into the "peace symbol" we will be amazed at how its creation was born from "deep despair", which is not very good sufficient grounds for peace.

HISTORY OF OUR PEACE SYMBOL

It was designed in 1958, February 21, (White Rythmic Wizard) by a British Gerald Holtom, a professional designer, artist and a graduate of the Royal College of Arts. He showed his preliminary sketches to a small group of people in the Peace News office in North London and to the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War, one of several smaller organisations that came together to set up CND.

A SYMBOL OF DESPAIR?

Gerald Holtom, a conscientious objector who had worked on a farm in Norfolk during the Second World War, explained that the symbol incorporated the semaphore letters N(uclear) and D(isarmament). He later wrote to Hugh Brock, editor of Peace News, explaining the genesis of his idea in greater, more personal depth:

“I was in despair. Deep despair. I drew myself: the representative of an individual in despair, with hands palm outstretched outwards and downwards in the manner of Goya ’s peasant before the firing squad. I formalised the drawing into a line and put a circle round it. ”

Eric Austin added his own interpretation of the design: "the gesture of despair had long been associated with the death of Man and the circle with the unborn child."

(I wonder if this Gerald Holtman, creator of our peace symbol is any relation to Capt. Gerald P. Holtom, a Marine intelligence officer born and raised in Japan.)

In earlier times the peace character "actually began as a symbol of Satanic benediction during the rituals.'' This sign has been used by Yasser Arafat, Richard Nixon, Winston Churchill, and Stewart Meacham, Co-Chairman of Reds' New Mobilisation Committee." Churchill said that the sign stood for victory but remember that Churchill was one of the insider "elite" and a Mason.

"Known as the 'peace sign' throughout the 1960's and into the present day, this symbol is the Teutonic rune of death. 1950's peace advocate Gerald Holtom may have been commissioned by communist sympathiser Bertrand Russell to design a symbol to unite leftist peace marchers in 1958. It is clear that either Holtom or Russell deemed the Teutonic (Neronic) cross as the appropriate symbol for their cause.

"Throughout the last 2,000 years this symbol has designated hatred of Christians. Nero, who despised Christians, crucified the Apostle Peter on a cross head downward. This hideous event resembled the Teutonic cross and became the popular insignia of the day. Thereafter, this sign became known as the 'Neronic cross.'

"The symbol's origin in history proves it to be the visual mystic character for 'Aum' (the split 'Y'- UPRIGHT). This is the sacred word to the Hindu. Chanting 'Aum' is supposed to help awaken 'the serpent power of Brahma' at the base of the human spine. Occultist Albert Pike also identifies this symbol as mystical in his book on Freemasonry Morals and Dogma.

The peace symbol (also called the "broken cross," "crow's foot," "witch's foot," "Nero Cross," "sign of the 'broken Jew,'" and the "symbol of the 'anti-Christ''') is actually a cross with the arms broken - DOWNWARD. It also signifies the "gesture of despair," and the "death of man.''

"The Germanic tribes who used it attributed strange and mystical properties to the sign. Such a 'rune', in reverse is said to have been used by 'black magicians' in incantations and condemnations....To this very day the inverted broken cross--identical to the socialists' 'peace' symbol--is known in Germany as a 'todersrune,' or death rune. Not only was it ordered by Hitler's National Socialists that it must appear on German death notices, but it was part of the official inscription prescribed for the gravestones of Nazi officers of the dread SS. The symbol suited Nazi emphasis on pagan mysticism.''

With the arms of the cross raised in an upright position, it is "a Pythagorean emblem of the course of life, in the form of a rising path with fork roads to Good and Evil.'' It also signifies fertility, but with the arms pointing downward, it denotes evil and death.

"In fact, the inverted 'Man-rune'--the figure encircled in the common sign which the Communists tell us means 'peace'--has for centuries been a favourite sign of Satanists.''

Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan, used the peace symbol as the backdrop for his altar.

One former Satanic witch makes the following comment about the peace symbol:

"It is an ancient and powerful symbol of Antichrist. During the dark ages it was used by Satanists of all sorts during the initiation of a new member to their order. They would draw the magic circle and give the initiate a cross. The initiate would then lift the cross and "turn it upside down". He would then renounce Christianity in all three dimensions (sic) of time (past, present and future) and break the horizontal pieces downward forming the design of the 'Raven's Foot.' For one to wear or display this symbol is to announce either knowingly or unknowingly that you have rejected Christ. Remember, symbolism is a picture language, and a picture is worth a thousand words.''

It was designed from the naval code of semaphore, and the symbol upright represents the code letters for ND (Nuclear disarment). The peace symbol widely used is reverse: DN.

A little before the first Aldermaston march at Easter 1958, Holtom showed up at the offices of _Peace News_ in London with drawings for banners and the symbol: "On a purple square was superimposed a white circle with a purple cross inside it, or almost a cross. The arms had slipped and were drooping against the lower sides of the circle. Holtom had made the design by combining the semaphore letters N and D: N for nuclear and D, naturally, for disarmament."

Herb Greer an American journalist and playwright was actually there on and before the first Aldermaston March for which it was created. He visited Holtom, and saw the original sketches and discussed it with him. The reason for the symbol being upside down (D over N) is that semaphore is a military code. He said Upside down, it was anti-military." ?????

Holtom had been commissioned by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. The CND, headed by philosopher Bertrand Russell, was planning an Easter march to Canterbury Cathedral to protest the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment atAldermaston.

After doodling around with several versions of the Christian cross set in A circle, Holtom hit on the crow's-foot idea. This had a couple things going for it.

During the heyday of the peace movement, other interpretations of the Symbol were also offered. A national Republican newsletter noted that it looked a lot like an emblem used by the Nazis during World War II--an apparent coincidence.

Another interpretation, widely promoted by the John Birch Society and other right-wing groups, was that the symbol was really the "broken cross," sign of the Antichrist.

The most omnipresent symbol used currently by the international socialists is the one, is a sign of "peace." The Communists love "peace." You will remember that Lenin declared more than forty years ago in The Tasks Of The Youth League that: "As an ultimate objective, 'peace' simply means Communist world control." And the Communists are campaigning for precisely that sort of "peace." Their symbol is a part of the trappings of this scheme. Resembling a reversed chicken track enclosed in a circle, or a swept-wing bomber in vertical flight, the "peace" insignia - like the other symbols of the international socialists - reflects what Lenin called "that cursed 'Aesopian' language."

According to the radical World Without War Council: "The Peace Action Symbol was designed on February 21, 1958 for use in the first Aldermaston Easter Peace Walk in England.

A less guarded commentary on the origin and meaning of this symbol appeared in Win magazine, an official publication of the subversive War Resisters League. On Page twenty-seven of Win for October 1, 1969, we read that the "Nuclear Disarmament Symbol" was "adopted immediately by Hugh Brock and Pat Arrowsmith on behalf of the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War (London) who initiated and organized the first Aldermaston March at Easter of that year [1958] ." According to the authoritative Intelligence Digest, both Brock and Arrowsmith have for years been affiliated with Communist enterprises in Europe.

Elaborating on this theme, Win explains that in creating the initial design:

The first mark on paper was a white circle against a black square. This was followed by various versions of Christian crosses drawn within the white "spere" [sic] on a black background and these in turn gave way to the final ND form .... but reversed D over N.

Immediately following the "First March" (there had been previous small scale Aldermaston demonstrations} an ND badge version of the Symbol was devised and made by Eric Austen. Eric's researches into the origins of symbolism confirmed that the "gesture of despair" motif has been associated through ancient history with the "death of man," and the circle with the "unborn child" .... THE DEATH OF MAN??????????

Apparently the "N" and "D" were an afterthought. That explanation came later. The design is a product of careful research of ancient symbolism - especially various forms of the Christian cross. But, what these propagandists of the War Resisters League (2) do not say is that the design was adopted from one initiated by the infamous Bertrand Russell.

One Time, One Peace, for All!

Letter for Reform

The United States of America is the very first secular government founded in the world. The founding fathers document this in The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. One of the greatest assets an American citizen may appreciate is the freedom of religion. The fact is that religious persecution was a very motivating factor in coming to America. Nothing has endorsed the freedom of religion more than the separation of church and state. Americans enjoy a degree of religious freedom unknown in most of the rest of the world, and we take full advantage it: the United States is home to more than 1,500 different religious bodies and 360,000 churches, synagogues and mosques. I am grateful for the principles for which the United States was founded.

However, my concern is this, there was no specific legal code at that time for an official national calendar for the United States. Maybe that time has come. We have adopted the Gregorian calendar only by default. Founding this country on secularism and separation of church and state does not follow suit to keep the Gregorian calendar anymore. It is the weakest link in the U.S. to truly support separation of church and state principles. The fact is that our present Gregorian calendar is set-up to date from what was considered the year of the birth of Jesus Christ. Every time an individual writes out a check or signs a document he or she is acknowledging the amount of time that has passed since the birth of the Christian Savior. Does this respect the rights of those that are not of the Christian faith?

President Bush has violated the spirit of the founders and the letter of the First Amendment by giving tax money to religious organizations through the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives. His approach was either naive or sneaky and disingenuous. I am concerned in the direction that this could lead. I do worry about the walls of separation of church and state being torn down. If this is not a red flag, then I don’t know what is.

It is absurd to keep pretending that the Gregorian is not a religious calendar when it is the Official Catholic calendar with its latest revision by Pope Gregory, implemented in 1582. How can we truly have freedom of religion unless we are allowed freedom from religion when we choose? So long as the Gregorian is the calendar in America, America has no true freedom from religion. Why the AU, ACLU, FFRF, etc doesn't want to talk about calendar reform is beyond me. This makes no sense in the very first country in the world founded upon principles of separation of church and state would not choose a calendar that is non-sectarian, democratically embracing all beliefs, for everyone, including non-believers for which until very recently hasn’t had a political platform for many years. In the Pledge of Allegiance it says, ‘With Liberty and Justice for all.’ How about a calendar for all? The largest opponent to calendar reform appears to be bad habit, lack of interest and moral laziness to deal with the issue.

Here are a few basic facts:

The legal code of the United States does not specify an official national calendar. Use of the Gregorian calendar in the United States stems from an Act of Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1751, The British Calendar Act of 1751. Which specified use of the Gregorian calendar in England and its colonies.

The 13-month calendar was introduced into modern times by French philosopher Auguste Comte who studied the Polynesian 13-moon, 28-day calendar for 7 years and, in 1849, initiated the first reform of the Gregorian calendar to be based on the 13-moon calendar. Since that time, this calendar has been proposed on numerous occasions, preferred for its perfection and regularity.

In 1923, the "League of Nations" called for Calendar reform. More than 500 proposals were received by 1931. The 13 month, 28 day Calendar was favored. In the 1930's, 98% of businesses polled preferred the 13 month calendar over the Gregorian. In the US alone, over 100 industries of great diversity supported this change. It was only by extreme religious resistance from the (Roman Catholic) Vatican that world-wide adaptation of this logical alternative was halted.

The Thirteen Moon 28-day calendar belongs to no religion, is purely non-sectarian, democratically embracing all beliefs and holds a peaceful balance between the various solar and lunar calendars used around the world synchronizing all other calendars. Its use will not only reestablish harmony as an intrinsic value of life, but make accounting easier and provide for a perpetual calendar for all the holidays, i.e., July 4, would now be Cosmic Moon 8, and would always fall on a Sunday.

Superstition or distaste for the number 13 are not valid since we have a flag with 13 stars representing the original 13 colonies, not to mention the symbology of 13 on the US $1 dollar bill. We still have 13 red and white stripes on the American flag today. Why not the calendar to go with it?

The intent of this letter is to make the case that the World 13 Moon calendar exemplifies E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, One) more than any other. It is with great confidence when I say that no other calendar could be more American. There would be no greater starting point for the adoption of this calendar to begin to lead the world towards peace than in the United States, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Declaration of the First World Peace

We, the people of planet Earth who have chosen to follow the Thirteen Moon/28-day calendar as the basis of a new sovereignty and a new community of peace and harmony with all of life on Earth, in rejecting the old calendar and its disempowering institutions, do hereby declare the commencement of the First World Peace.

The purpose of the First World Peace - 2004-2012 - is to declare Earth as a universal cease-fire zone thus assuring the time for a comprehensive reordering of human priorities with the end of sustaining and furthering all of life as a single unity on this Earth. To attain this goal, we do hereby declare and establish our sovereignty in a New Time of perfect harmony, and in so doing, are no longer bound to the institutions and mores of the old time and its calendar. We solemnly dedicate ourselves, instead, to a new beginning with fresh, creative ways of solving our problems. War is no longer in any way a viable form of conflict resolution, and in its place we call for a universal disarmament accompanied by a reorganization of human society in accord with the constructive peace and harmony reflected in the new calendar of Thirteen/Moons 28-days.

In making this declaration of the First World Peace we call upon all existing humanitarian organizations to join us in creating a New Assembly of the Earth which will first of all assist in making the change to the new calendar and the new time among all peoples of the Earth. Simultaneously, the New Assembly of the Earth will call upon representatives of all peoples to gather to establish the new priorities and to prepare for a universal understanding of time as the basis of a new Global Civilization.

We who undertake this heroic adventure do so only after having seen and experienced the exhaustion of the old order embedded in a calendar whose time no longer served the purposes of universal spiritual and mental evolution. We pray to the Supreme Creator that our task will be guided by Divine Mercy and that Compassion and Enlightenment will befall the upholders of this Declaration. May we have the courage to dissolve all of the old that is furthering division, strife and destruction. May we equally have the wisdom to preserve that which will in every way continue to uplift the human species. Above all, may we have the patience and tolerance to define and promote the new ways of life that will be in accord with the maintenance and evolution of our Earthly support system, the biosphere, and which will foster a spirit of universal acceptance and tolerance among all human beings.

We understand that if we do not now take these measures we are forfeiting the greatest opportunity that is afforded by changing the time through changing the calendar, and that is to declare an immediate peace that is the expression of the will of the untold billions of humans whose choice is not war but peace. May the voice of the people of the Earth be heard in all tongues echoing in all the valleys of the Earth, blown by all the winds across the seven seas to the highest mountain tops: Let the New Time of Peace prevail for seven time seven generations to come!

Banner of Peace?

The Banner of Peace is a powerful universal symbol which was adapted by the visionary artist Nicholas Roerich to serve as an emblem for the desire of human culture to rise above war. This flag has been flown globally, as a sign of peace and culture, since the 1930's.

The Roerich Pact and Banner of Peace is an international treaty signed by India, the Baltic states, and 22 nations of the Americas including the United States. The Roerich Peace Pact established an international agreement allowing any nation to protect its cultural or artistic heritage with a symbolic banner, the Banner of Peace. Signed in 1935, this treaty is international law today.

Written with the assistance of international experts and lawyers, the Banner of Peace was praised by many notable figures during its signing including Albert Einstein, George Bernard Shaw, and H.G. Wells. The Pact states, "educational, artistic, and scientific institutions...shall be protected and respected by the belligerents...without any discrimination as to the state allegiance of any particular institution or mission...these missions may display a distinctive flag (the Banner of Peace)...which will entitle them to special protection and respect..." Thus any site of cultural activity around the world can fly the Banner of Peace to declare itself neutral, independent of combatant forces, and protected by international treaty.

The distinctive banner has three red circles surrounded by a larger red circle on a white banner. The banner is a deep red or magenta color to symbolize the color of our one blood, which is the same for all peoples. The top circle represents spirituality and encompasses the truth of all religions, that we can all unite regardless of our distinct beliefs. The two circles on the bottom represent art and science. The circle that surrounds the three spheres represents culture, the unity of art, science, and spirituality.
